Our Task
United Way of CT tasked us with making a video illustrating the life of an ALICE family. They wanted to use this video to communicate with the general public, especially legislators. Most of the people making decisions in the state do not understand, as Maria says, “what it is to struggle”.
Meet Maria
As said before, we met our candidate Maria at the Trinfo VITA site. From the get-go, it was clear she was a star – a perfect representation of the ALICE families of CT. Maria took time out of her days to be interviewed twice by us, to speak at a press conference, and to talk to the news. She reminds us that the struggle is real and that we must stop questioning if we should help, and do what needs to be done. We are eternally grateful for Maria and her powerful perspective, and we hope her time and energy will help make a difference for the people of Connecticut.
Maria’s Impact
Maria made an impact past just her video – which has racked up hundreds of views – she was also a part of multiple news stories and our press conference. Maria opened the discussion on a CT Child Tax Credit to no longer be just about money, but to be about the families affected. Her words and videos are still being used by United Way of CT to this day in ad campaigns across the internet. The legislative session ends May 8th, and while we hope for a favorable result, the push for a CT CTC will continue no matter what, with Maria’s efforts forever playing a pivotal role.
