Montecarlo Bakery
Description
Eliana Sanchez owns the Montecarlo Bakery on Park Street in Frog Hollow with her cousin Estela Lopez. She opened the bakery in October of 2019. Eliana is a talented pastry and cake baker, while her cousin Estela does the more administrative side of the work for the bakery. Sanchez and Lopez are Colombian and so the bakery features Colombian pastries and cakes. Living in Frog Hollow, they have learned more form the broader, diverse Latinx community about the many similarities, but also differences between pastries and cakes. For instance, Puerto Rican cakes are moister than Colombian, and there are different names for the cakes. The bakery also serves great coffee, and they use the beans from their family’s coffee bean farm, “La Nubia,” in Colombia in the region near the city of Sevilla. They buy coffee beans from their family to support them and roast them at the bakery. Sanchez is a working mother with a ten-year-old daughter. She has been talking to her daughter, getting excited for her to spend time at the Park Street Library at the Lyric.
