In the 1990s, the city of Hartford faced a decrease in its population, thus being the most significant decrease the state of Connecticut has ever seen. With the loss of community members, the city was considered a “dying city” because of the drop in numbers. My audio essay focuses on arguing against that theory and proving that Hartford is not a dying city as they proclaim it to be. My audio will focus on the rebirth of the city, how the city has expanded in many ways with its increasing community. My audio will take place in Hartford in various sites such as parks, stores, and malls. These areas are the most populated in the city and get the most activity. The audio will have a range of voices ranging from adults to kids to show that the community is expanding, not dying. The audio will also have different languages as Hartford is known to be very diverse, showing that Hartford has a range of languages and diversity. The kids in the audio will represent the future sound because they are the future of Hartford and where the city goes. They are the title rebirth because the meaning of rebirth is to come alive again, and the city will come alive with the younger generation taking charge and leading the way. Since Hartford also has a range of cultures and languages, it also allows the new generation to explore around the world just by walking throughout their city! Hartford is a city that is far from dying anytime soon.
