This sound essay, “Envisioning Park Street in the Future,” is a conversation between the ambient noise from two Park Street art locations and “Half:Electric,” a music track by Connecticut-Based DJ/Producer/Artist Ch’Varda. The art locations I chose to highlight were the AIDs Mural created in 1997 by Victor Pacheco and the Art Box located at 777 Park Street. My idea for this project was to do a documentary sound essay that examined the sounds around key art spaces in Hartford. I honed in on two different locations, both on Park Street, that juxtaposed each other. The AIDs mural is a longstanding keystone art piece, and the Art Box is a space I believe has so much further potential. The sound essay explores the sounds these two locations make, and combines it with a music track that illustrates the glowing art scene in Hartford.
