Stipulation agreements are an agreement between the landlord and the tenant that allows the tenant to stay int heir residence for a certain duration of time in exchange for both back rent and fees (arrears). Tenants who enter into stipulation agreements will have an eviction on their record, but most tenants are not aware of this. When we constructed our survey we didn’t anticipate how central stipulation agreements would be to our study. However, with 55% of those we surveyed entering into stipulation agreements they proved to be not only prevalent but a significant factor in the eviction process. We created this info-graphic to explain our findings, as well as a basic explanation of stipulation agreements to give our findings context.
