The Liberal Arts Action Lab is a partnership between Trinity College and CT State Capital Community College. Each semester, students from CT State engage in research projects with Trinity students to address issues that are raised by community organizations in Hartford.

Spring 2027 Projects:

  • Food Justice, Student Engagement, and Policy with Hartford Advisory Commission on Food Policy and Connecticut Food Sovereignty Collective: The Hartford Advisory Commission on Food Policy and Connecticut Food Sovereignty Collective work to advance more equitable and community-centered food systems. How can a wide range of stakeholders within the food justice ecosystem such as urban farmers, values-led retailers, students, educational institutions, and food justice organizations build stronger connections to advance food justice in Hartford and across Connecticut? Help explore existing initiatives, partnerships, and opportunities for collaboration through research, mapping, and interviews with community members and organizations. Your work will contribute to resources and recommendations that strengthen student engagement, community partnerships, and food policy advocacy.
  • Understanding Community Needs through 211 Data and Experiences with United Way of Connecticut: United Way of Connecticut connects residents with essential services and resources through its 211 information and referral program. What can 211 service data and the experiences of people seeking assistance tell us about community needs and barriers to accessing support? Help analyze patterns in requests for assistance and explore residents’ experiences through research and interviews. Your work will contribute to reports, data visualizations, and public-facing materials that help inform community conversations, advocacy, and policy decisions.
